Cheap KVM VPS in the Netherlands: a buyer's filter
Evidence limitation: no reproducible first-hand benchmark, billing or support-response records were supplied for this update. Treat performance and service quality as unverified; test the selected plan and confirm renewal terms yourself.
Question 1: Is it actually KVM?
Question 2: Which facility, exactly?
"Netherlands" on a price page can mean a top-tier Amsterdam-area data center or a reseller's rack in an industrial park. The tell: legitimate hosts name their facility. Virterion names Greenhouse Datacenters — a Tier 3 site with redundant power and cooling near The Hague — which we verified by network path in our legitimacy audit. The Dutch advantage only materializes if you are actually in the AMS-IX peering neighborhood: ~1–2 ms to Amsterdam, ~10 ms to London and Frankfurt, as our NL region measurements showed.
Question 3: What does renewal cost?
Budget hosting's favorite trick is the teaser rate: $3 for month one, triple after. A cheap VPS is only cheap if month 13 costs what month 1 did. In our two-month billing check, Virterion renewed at exactly the sign-up price — $6/month stayed $6/month, no setup fee, no forced add-ons. Compare that with the fee structures dissected in Virterion vs Contabo.
What $6/month realistically runs
| Workload | Fits the entry plan? |
|---|---|
| Site or blog with moderate traffic | Yes, comfortably |
| Telegram/Discord bot, monitoring, cron jobs | Yes — barely uses it |
| Small store | Start here; move to High CPU ($13.75) as traffic grows |
| Video transcoding, heavy CI | No — that needs dedicated CPU tiers |
